2008 Little League Championship Weekend Television Schedule

Found this information at Little League’s site and though you would be interested in it. I was surprised about all of the extra coverage ESPN is offering. This tournament is out of control! Awesome!

    SATURDAY (AUGUST 23)
    12:30 p.m. (ABC):
International Championship – Japan (Edogawa Minami Little League,Tokyo) vs. Mexico (Matamoros Little League, Matamoros, Tamaulipas)
3:30 p.m. (ABC): United States Championship – U.S. West (Waipio Little League, Waipahu, Hawaii) vs. Southwest (South Lake Charles Little League, Lake Charles, Louisiana)

    SUNDAY (AUGUST 24)
    Noon, ESPN:
    Consolation Game
2 p.m., ESPN: Little League Webgems Show
2:30 p.m., ESPN: Little League Baseball World Series Preview Show
3:30 p.m., ABC: Little League Baseball World Series Championship

Word to the wise! When Hawaii won the world series a couple of years back I Tivo’d it and was smart enough to extend it for 3 hours beyond the time it was scheduled to end. The game went into extra innings, no problemo right? Ummm….WRONG.

At the end of the sixth inning they moved it over to ESPN for the seventh and final walk off home run. I missed it. Don’t know the answer for this, other than maybe record ESPN as well? What if they move it to ESPN2? Trouble, trouble, trouble.

    What a Dork I Am!

Wife’s Away, Time to Play! (Yeah Right!)

My wife took all 4 of the kids that still live at home and went to the Beach for a week. Party time right? Not for me! While most men would have been down at the sports bar w/ their buddies, what did I do? Spent every night on a Little League Field! I am such a loser huh?

    Here was my schedule:

Friday Night: Wife Left, I had all-star practice
    Saturday: First All-Star Game
Sunday: Last All-Star Game (I hate 2 and outs!)
    Monday: Umpired
    Tuesday: Umpired
    Wednesday: Umpired
    Thursday: Umpired

Am I the biggest geek ever or what??? The problem is every day had a rain delay! Gotta love Florida in the summer! That meant I didn’t get home until 11PM each night!

    My Family is Home, Woohoo!

Tonight my family is home! Yiippppeee! I actually missed them, way too quiet at night! We also have tomorrow and Sunday off due to race traffic. (I think the DA just likes to go to the races…lol) So I have a whole 3 days w/o a little league activity! Woohoo! Then its probably back on the field every night next week, sectionals on Saturday, then senior sectionals the following Saturday. Then we have to start working on fall ball! It never ends! Oh yeah, travel team practice starts Sunday morning!

Do you have any life at all or can you relate?

    Individual Training Requested

    I am Honored

I am honored to announce that today a parent requested that I provide individual training for their child. I will be teaching her pitching and helping to develop her delivery, release, and general growth as a pitcher . She has a good core to start from and she is a hard worker. I am honored that they feel I can help her develop.

    Soliciting More Clients

This is a natural extension of this blog and I would consider accepting additional clients. If you wish to discuss individual training and work out a schedule to do so, please contact me at rick@thelittleleaguecoach.com and we will hash out the details.

I look forward to working with you!

How many of you feel a personal coach is an effective way to advance your career?

    Busy Week

This was a busy week! Here was my schedule:

    Tuesday: League Championship Series Loss
    Wednesday: Minor Tournament Game
    Thursday: League Champions Victory
    Friday: Tournament of Champions Practice
Saturday 10AM: Tournament of Champions Practice
Saturday Noon: Minor Tournament Game Umpire
Saturday 6PM: Tournament of Champions Practice
Sunday: Rays vs. White Sox Game
Monday: First Tournament of Champions Game

    We are Ready

Our girls could not be more ready. They catch every fly ball , field every grounder, and throw accurately. We have done all we can do. Now, it’s time to execute. You never know who will show up, but I am pretty sure they want it, that means they will be focused. They certainly acted like it today at their third practice in less than 24 hours.

Proud to Have Been Part of Their Life

Either way, I am so proud of how far they have come I can’t stop beaming. This is the culmination of years of working with this group of girls. They are 12 now, and this is our year. This is what we have worked for, they know it, they want it, they have heart. They can do it, win or lose they are a success and I am proud to have been a small part of their life.

    Go Flames!

    That Time of the Year

It is that time of the year! Wrapping up the seasons, cramming games into the end of the year and praying for no rain! (Though we really could use rain here, how about only rain after 10PM?). Every league is pretty much the same this time of the year and things really start to get fun.

    Sit Back and Enjoy

This is the time where a coach gets to sit back and enjoy the fruits of their labors. I told a couple of people the other day that "you will see things you didn’t think possible over the next couple of weeks". The middle of the season starts to drag a bit, and the kids drop off here and there, but introduce tournaments, top teams, championships, and trophies and suddenly they focus! Not only do they focus, they actually implement what you have been teaching them all year! That’s the fun part!

    The Inevitable Upset

Inevitably a team that hasn’t won very many games knocks someone off, a kid that hasn’t hit all year gets in a game winning situation and succeeds! A pitcher that a manager is forced into using strikes out a home run king. I kid that has never caught a fly ball in his life makes a diving catch. These times is fun!!!!!!!

    My Schedule

Here is my schedule, I am sure you can relate:

    Tuesday: Top Team Tournament Game
    Wednesday: Minor Tournament Game
    Thursday: Top Team Tournament Game
    Friday: Practice
    Saturday: 2 Practices
    Sunday: Practice
Monday: Potential Minor Tournament Game/Potential Tournament of Champions Game
Tuesday: Potential Minor Tournament Game/Potential Tournament of Champions Game
Wednesday: Potential Minor Tournament Game/Potential Tournament of Champions Game
Thursday: Potential Minor Tournament Game/Potential Tournament of Champions Game

It doesn’t stop there, I am just not sure where it goes!

    Play Ball

The great thing about this time of year, the kids know what they are doing today. Playing ball! Tomorrow? Playing ball!, the next day? Playing ball! They tend to stay very focused.

    10 Minutes of Mourning

To all out there who are entering your busy time, good luck! But remember to look over at your kids 10 minutes after you lose or are eliminated, what are they doing? Running around playing w/ the other team w/ smiles on their faces of course!!!!

How busy is your schedule? Let’s hear it!
